Acolytes

In the Church there are several functions performed by different members / persons. These services are usually designated by Ministries, since the word Minister means server. Thus, among the various Liturgical Ministries, there is that of the Acolytes.

The word Acolyte means "to accompany in the way", being that one, "in the celebration of the liturgy, accompanies other people, to serve them and to help". Therefore, the acolyte is someone who has an authentic spirit of service, and who is content when, through his actions, he provides effective help to his parish and his Christian brothers.

The acolyte accompanies and serves the president of the celebration of the Eucharist, which can be both the Bishop and the Priest.

However, it is also his duty to serve the Deacon, the Extraordinary Minister of Communion, as well as other persons who need help during the celebration of the Eucharist. But, above all, the acolyte accompanies, helps, and serves Jesus himself.

The function of the acolyte, whatever it may be, is a service that is provided and not an opportunity for the person to show himself. Serving Jesus, he follows his example, for Jesus came "not to be served but to serve" (Mk 10:45), making life a service and a gift to others out of love.
