Mission

Caritas Azores is the expression of the merciful action of the Christian community in favor of the most disadvantaged and marginalized in society. Seek in the light of the Gospel:

-–Prevent and combat social exclusion and poverty;

– Welcome, respect, understand, help and promote the closest;

– Act in situations of social emergency or disaster;

– Animate the social pastoral.

In a spirit of fraternal communion, Caritas Azores works with all Caritas on the island. We therefore recognize the principle of local autonomy and seek to develop the spirit of unity and to fulfill our common mission in an integrated manner.

Vision

Caritas Azores, according to the guidelines of Caritas Internationalis, is committed to a world that is a reflection of the Kingdom of God, where justice, peace, freedom and solidarity prevail at the service of human dignity; a world where there is no exclusion, no discrimination, no poverty that dehumanizes; a world where the earth's goods are shared among all, where all creation is respected and safeguarded for the common good of future generations; a world in which all people, especially the poorest, marginalized and oppressed, have hope and feel empowered to reach the fullness of their humanity, to build “one human family”.

Caritas Azores, despite the particularities of each island, increasingly wants:

– Work hand in hand to build a more humane and fairer world without discrimination;

– Promote the Human Being fully, ensuring full inclusion and social autonomy, focusing not only on immediate support, but also on prevention, empowerment, family intervention, multidimensional and proximity;

– Cooperate in a network with all socio-charitable organizations of the Church, so that together they develop a coherent image of choice for the most vulnerable, deepening common criteria of action and collaboration with other social action agents;

– Be proactive in making the Azorean population aware of the reality of poverty and exclusion, their causes, assuming a critical conscience, denunciation and social participation in the change of structures and direct assistance to the most fragile, acting with sobriety, in the building of A better world.
