Jewellry Core

Jewellry Core

In view of the historical introduction of the Catholic Church, the visitor enters into a more concrete space of the church life - the baptismal chapel - a place of excellence for the beginning of a Christian life, through the Sacrament of Baptism.

The Sacraments are visible signs of an invisible reality through which Christians can experience, through the action of the Holy Spirit, the presence of God who heals, forgives, nourishes, strengthens and enables us to love, in a word, to experience the Grace of God. Because they are instituted by Jesus Christ, each of the seven Sacraments is accompanied by a word and a concrete gesture, inspired by the divine revelation.

In the logic of the Sacraments, there are associated pieces of great material value that help in their administration.

In the field of decorative arts, jewellry occupies a position of notoriety - almost central - either as a symbol of faith and power or helping in the affirmation of social prestige, and in many cases there is a certain competition, since Man, has always attached great importance to gold, silver and precious stones.

The term "jewellry", although commonly associated in broader terms with all types of metals, including gold, silver, white metal, copper and brass, designates all objects executed in gold.

In Religious Jewelery, a more significant part of the treasures of religious institutions, several examples are seen that serve the celebrations of religious worship. In this sphere, in the logic of the Sacraments, there are gathered in the Jewellry Core, prodigious liturgical implements, mostly in silver, of national production, used in the celebrations of the same, constituting a group of great importance and admirable quality, covering a wide range Temporal, between the seventeenth century and the twentieth century. The ensemble covers about forty examples.
